San Gatsu

Hello again from cold and rainy Okinawa. The month of March brought 10 days...count them 10days in the 70's. The rest of the month saw clouds, rain and 60's. Needless to say...we didn't do a darn thing this month worth noting. Course we managed a photo here and there. Of course Ellie didn't disappoint in her display of her ever expanding knowledge and wisdom. We did find a day to visit the zoo here on Okinawa. Not the biggest or the best and we don't recommend going if you work for PETA or any other animal right's watchdog group...no really it wasn't that bad...Ellie enjoyed the day.

Ellie loved the petting zoo.

An exotic species depends on where in the world you are.

If you double click the photo below you will see that the name of this tree is the 'drunk tree'.

The one reward of taking a small child to the zoo is that the car ride home is usually peaceful!
Ellie's school celebrated Dr. Seuss this month and had parents come for a visit.

Finally, some more park (weeeee) photos of Ellie and Maddi.

Ni Gatsu

Konnichiwa, konnichiwa, konnichiwa. Gomen-nsai! I am sorry this post is soooo late. There are several reasons that combined to cause this post to be about two months overdue. One...not much has been going on here in Okinawa to post about. When you combine that with the fact that I am sitting inside on the first rainy Saturday we have had in about a month, it should come as no surprise that this post is so late. Waaaaay back in February we spent most days huddled inside as it was a very cool and rainy winter here in Okinawa. We did, however find a few days worthy of a picture or two. We made it to the park...Ellie calls it the weeee (short for swing). The most notable thing we did was to take in a Japanese Professional Baseball spring training game. A few other various photos were taken here and there...but mostly we spent the month just like everyone else--waiting for the rain and cold to be pushed aside by warmer weather!

Below...what every dad aspires to teach their kids...how to properly finish off a bowl of Cheerios!

A little controversy exists...some of the following photos appear in last month's post but they were actually taken in the month of February...Ellie at the park or as she call's it the weeeeee.

We made it to a spring training japanese baseball game. During the month of February all but one team come down to Okinawa or the surrounding islands to start practice for the year. Having never been to either a Japanese baseball game or a spring training game for that matter we were surprised (perhaps we should not have been) to see such avid and engaged fans. This island goes crazy over baseball. At the beginning of the game the Yokohama Giants took the field and an outfielder tossed a ball into the stands within a few feet of us. A man dove over the crowd, missing us but clobbering a woman and her baby. While the woman picked grass and dirt out of her ear (we sat on a grass hill, not in seat or bleachers) the man gave a quick bow; to westerners this looks respectful but in actuality it is analogous to an American saying 'sorry, but next time get out of the way lady'. We thought jerks only lived in America!

Looking closely at the photo below you will notice a magical beer tap that produces a continuous stream of beer...it appears to come from nowhere and it never stops...an unending supply of money goes to whoever can bring this technology stateside!

Not sure why Ellie is making this face...she was actually enjoying her chicken and fries off the grass.

We end the month with an American tradition kept alive in Okinawa Japan...enjoying beer at the ballpark!
Raigetsu o sanshō shite! See you next month!
